The purpose of this piece was to help me learn how to capture chaotic movement. I wanted to try to emphasize the movement of the explosion, exaggerating the movement of the "goo" bursting out of the skull.
I started with a basic sketch of a skull. After drawing the skull, I used the lasso tool to remove parts of the skull, to make them look like they're breaking off. Once I separated parts of the skull, I zoomed through the final sketch, line art, and coloring.
An interesting fact about this piece - This was the piece where I developed my signature thick hatching shading style.
